ジョンさん日本へ

この本はとてもきれいです。アートスタイルがだいすきです。でもジョンさんは、ゆきさんがすきですか。ゆきさんも、ジョンさんが好きですか。次のチャプターはどこですか。John meets Yuki while taking an airplane to Tokyo because they had the same manga. When they said goodbye to each other, they realized they accidentally switched their mangas between themselves. Three months later, they went to see a Kabuki dance together, but later realize they accidentally got the wrong date.

This book is, in my opinion, easier to read than 笠地蔵 because most of the kanjis are words we already learned, and many of the kanjis that people might not recognize are words we already learned, just not in kanji but in hiragana. I will recommend this book to the first-year Japanese students.

この本は綺麗です、私は大好きです。This book is about sakura, it introduces the timing of sakura blossoms, and it shows how sakura is in everyone’s life.

I love the paragraph when the book says 桜の下で…今も、昔も, it is not like the sentence that we learned in class, this one is more poetic, beautiful.

I would recommend this book because it is easy to read and also beautiful in its language.

西町交番の良さん にわにわに?

この本はとてもかわいくて、たのしです。本の物語はとてもおもしろいです。私はこの本がすきです!

The story is about a policeman who gets called to a house to deal with something pretty unusual: an alligator! It is a really energetic and fun story and the characters in it are super adorable and endearing. The final joke in the book is really unexpected but also super cute and funny!

I definitely recommend this book, especially to my fellow 1st year Japanese students. There are a few new vocabulary words but the illustrations make these very clear and the grammar structures are definitely ones we have learned. This book is well worth the very short amount of time it takes to read it!

ただいま 木村家の毎日

木村の毎日「ただいま」

この本はとてもかわいくて、やさしです。It is about the 木村family. There are four people in the family: お母さん、お父さん、their daughter 由美、and their son 一郎。One day, あとで お父さんと由美と一郎はうちに帰ります、they prepare a surprise birthday celebration for お母さん!

This is a simple story with simple vocabulary and grammar structures. It is a great read for Japanese 110 students looking to refresh on the things we have learned in class. It is also just a very sweet story of a kind and caring family!

八ちの話

私は八ちの話が大好きです。子供の時、中国語のクラスで八ちの話のええがを見ました。私は泣きました。犬が大好き、八ちの話読みましたから。

This book is easy to understand. there aren’t many difficult kanji. the sentences are structured in a simple way. I highly recommend it to JPN 110 students. The movie of 八ち is very famous, and lots of students probably have already watched the movie, and that helps in understanding the story too.

七夕

七夕は大好きな本です。子供の時、このストーリーを聞きました。とても古くて、おもしろいです。This book is about the legend of Qianniu and Zhinv, how they fall in love with each other, get punished by the god, and only get to meet each other once a year. It is very beautiful.

The pictures are really cute and the whole book is easy to understand! I highly recommend it because we can all learn about the true origin of Qixi festival from  it.

笠地蔵

この本はとても楽しいですよ。おじいさんとおばあさんはやさしくて、げんきです。誰もおじいさんの笠を買いません、でも大丈夫です。お地蔵さまは食べ物を送ります。おじいさんは笠を、地蔵のあたまにかぶせました。お地蔵さまはとてもかわいいです。I found this book to be adorable not only because of how the gods repaid the old couple so much more than what they received but also because of the heart-warming interaction between the old man and his wife. When the old man came back with no money but also no hat (because he gave it all away to the little gods), his wife did not scold him but instead agreed that it was a good act.

I will recommend this book to first-year students because although the Kanji part  is a little bit more difficult, there are furigana and illustrations to help them understand.

ジョンさん日本へ

この本は面白いです!レベル1の本ですが、難しくないです。でも、たくさん新しい単語があります。

ジヨンさんは日本に勉強しに行きます。飛行機で漫画を読んていました、そして、ゆきさんに会いました。二人は同じい漫画が好きと言いました。あとで、ジヨンさんとゆきさんは東京に会いて 一緒に歌舞伎に行きました。

Unlike many other Graded Readers book, this one has a clear and interesting story line, so it is easier to follow and read. I find it very helpful in applying what we learned in class as it tells a real life story. Also, it is a relatively easier Level 1 book and I would recommend this to 一年生 who wants to try some Level 1 books.

寿司・すし・sushi

This book introduces history of sushi, history of sushi and simple ways to make sushi. とても面白いです!I learned how to eat sushi in a correct way. Although I eat a lot of sushi and love sushi, I didn’t know how to eat it appropriately until I read this book.

Vocabulary and sentence structures are a little difficult for Japanese beginners, because it contains a lot of kanji (while it is easy to understand for Chinese speakers). But I think 日本語一年生 can understand the content with these cute pictures.

太郎( た ろ う) くんの 夏休 (な つ や す) み – Meg Coulter

この本はおもしろくてかわいいです。男の子はやさしいです。This book is very cute and shows a boy’s various activities during his vacation. The drawings are colorful and the writing is at a good beginner level of someone just learning Japanese.

I recommend this book if you want to practice with more vocab and grammars structures outside of what Genki teaches so it can be more real world applicable. This book is definitely helpful to those taking first year Japanese and is at a beginner level. The story is very easy to follow. Even if some words were not present in the Genki textbook, this book helps the reader inference them.
