緑の豚

このストーリーはとても面白いです。みどりのぶたわぴんくいろになります。ドローイングは可愛くて、きれいです。

I recommend this book because it has such beautiful drawings and nice story plot. I also learned new vocabularies from this story. However, I feel like the story could be extended a little bit to focus on how the green pig identifies itself. But overall, this book is worth reading and I like it very much.

ジョンさん日本へ

このストーリーはとても面白いです。この本の方が私読んだ本より、ちょっと長くて、ちょっと難しいいです。新しい単語がたくさんありますから。でも、絵は綺麗です。

I recommend this book! I would say the level of this book is 1.5, because it is more difficult than other 1 level books that I’ve read. The storyline is nice, with unexpected unfolding. It’s impressive for a book with a few pages to tell such a good story!

バス

この本は鈴木正男さんの一日について書きました。鈴木さんはバスの運転手です。バスが大好きです。おばあさんも大好きです。でも、おばあさんはもう死にました。鈴木さんは夢におばあさんに合いました。おばあさんはとても優しいでした。
この本の中で、新しいたんごがあります。でも、教科書に新しいたんごを読みました。

The book talks about a car accident that Suzuki bumped in. In the coma, he dreamt of his grandma. There are very moving conversations between them. At the end, he woke up in the hospital seeing his parents and realized that he was just in his dream, his grandma was dead.

There are new vocabs in the book, but all these vacabs are those we have read before, such as 明るい, which means bright. So I really recommend this book because it helps me review lots of words that I do not use frequentl

ゆきさんの食べもの

この本はかわいです。むずかしくなかったです。 私はこのねこが好きです!

The drawings/watercolors are really good. They were fun to look at.  It was a simple story and was easy to read. I don’t think there was any non-Genki vocab. I highly recommend this book.

冬の散歩

寒いの夜、私も友達と一緒に散歩したい。寒いですが、手が暖かいです。犬を見て、スープを食べました。とても幸せですね。

The book doesn’t have difficult words and perfectly explains the new words with 可愛い drawings. Also, the plot features fairy tale exploration though it’s not fairy tale. I love it. I strongly recommend it to 一年生。The book looks so good and I think it can be published for kids and of course for Japanese learners.

さんぽ、いぬ、ともだち

この本はとてもかわいいです。ほんは優しいです、でもちょっと難しいです。たのしいですね!
I would highly recommend this book to all level 0 readers. The images are amazing, the story is really cute, and it’s an easy read. Whatever kanji or vocabulary not known are easily understood from the images. Likewise, there was maybe one unfamiliar sentence structure, but otherwise it was great. You should definitely read it!

大豆

この本はとてもおもしろくてたのしい。Though I knew many of the uses of soy beans I enjoyed learning the names of some of the items in Japanese such as もやし(bean sprouts), and 油 (あぶら) or soybean oil. Not a big なっとう fan (fermented soy beans) but I have eaten it on a bit of a dare. I liked their anthropomorphized illustration. Nice to see the authors realized it isn’t for everyone’s taste–even in Japan–with the picture of the kids at the table towards the end. Enjoyed seeing the kanji 外(そと) used at the end as they were telling the “evil spirit” to get “outside”! Much more of a non-fiction kind of book but still would recommend to any JPN 110 students.

つきみ: 月見

この本はおもしろかったっです!!! The book focused on moon and what they eat during moon festival (?). Most of the vocabulary is pretty simple and we learned them in classes before, however, there are some unfamiliar vocabulary that we need to relied on the pictures to make an educated guess. I enjoyed the part of different animal drawings on the moon, it looked amazing! I never thought of something like this, so this book definitely taught me something new. Definitely recommend first year Japanese students to read 😀

京子さんは森に行きます

この本はとてもたのしくて、おもしろいです。It is about two cats、京子さんと京子さんのいもうと、マヤちゃん。The siblings love each other very much but Kyoko sometimes gets bored of their house. One day, Kyoko goes on an adventure in the forest. During her adventure, she meets a butterfly, another cat and a dog. By the end, she has enjoyed herself but is happy to be home and has a new appreciation for her home’s safety and peacefulness.

This was a really cute and enjoyable book. The pictures are とてもかわいいです。I wonder if they are pictures of the author’s real cats?!?

I would definitely recommend this book for Japanese 110 students.  It was a fun and quick read which used a lot of different vocabulary and grammar structures which we work on in class.
