The format was so cool. It was two books in one. There were two stories, one about a lonely cat and one about a lonely bird. The bird’s story starts “front to back” and the cat’s story starts “back to front” (to American readers). Then their stories meet up in the middle of the book when the characters meet. It’s such a cool idea.

I highly recommend this book. Not only was it a cool idea, but I appreciated that the vocab and grammar was all stuff we had covered. I don’t think I had to look anything up, and I understood the story. This is one of my favorite Tadoku books by students I have read. Also, it looks like the drawings are hand drawn, and that’s really cool.

A girl takes a ride in a taxi and later turns out to be a ghost. She tricks the taxi driver into dropping her off at her house and then runs inside without paying. the driver waits outside for her to come back and pay him but she never does. He eventually knocks on the door only to find out that the girl had died in a bicycle accident.

This book is accessible to a Japanese 111 student if not a Japanese 110 student. It takes a bit of intuition to piece together some of the story but it was certainly original.

This book was average. I understood 90% of it, so I recommend it as a level zero book. The story was funny in parts.  It had some Genki character fanfiction as part of the plot. There were a few vocabulary words that I didn’t know but I was not able to figure them out from the context or the drawings.

This book was fine but if you picked another random student book it would probably be just as good.  It was not challenging so this is good book if you do not want to be too intimidated by new vocab and kanji. It takes 5-10 minutes to read.

I really like this book, because it is interesting. The warm story is about this small family celebrating the mother’s birthday. The other members in the family prepared a surprise for the mother.

I recommend it to other 1st year Japanese students. There were vocabularies I didn’t recognize, but it was not difficult to guess the meaning of them based on the context and the pictures. It did help me to learn some new words and gave me a sense of how conversation is presented in Japanese written text.

I learnt about お花見 this activity. It sounds so amazing. I really want to go to Japan in spring and enjoy the beautiful natural scene. This book is easy to read and I recommend to people who want to learn about Sakura which tokens part of Japanese culture.

I really enjoyed Kimura-san’s character. If you are looking for a fun and quick read, this book may not be for you. This book started off calmly, but ended with a twist of plot that was very sad in my opinion. You will learn a lot of words relating to driving in this book.
