この本は色々な東京の着物のスタイルを紹介します。毎ページでは、特別な服を着ている人の写真だけしでなくて、この人に出会った話とこの人の着物のについて英語と日本語で書いた紹介もあります。本の中で、和服とか洋服などはたいていきれいですが、分からないアウトフィートもあります。それで、この本を読んだ後、特別な着物は似合わないことがよくあると思います。

I find this book really interesting because it introduces the fashionable outfits in Tokyo and also talks about the stories of the people who wear these outfits. While reading the stories, I find that it’s obvious that an outfit is reflecting a person’s  personality and occupation. Although the Japanese expressions are advanced in this book, the book is still really interesting to read since you have the photos and you can read their story in context.

日本の神話「古事記」より

 

古事記は日本の昔から話です。神話なので、たくさん神様がいます。古い話ですから、とても変ですが、とても面白いと思います。この本の中で、「日本の国の始まり」や「死の国」や他の話があります。天照は私の一番好きな古事記のキャラクターです。天照は太陽の神様だけでなく、天照は日本の神話によって日本の天皇の祖先で信じられています。時々古事記は他の国の神話みたいです。時々古事記は他の国の神話と比べて、とても違います。そして、古事記はとても面白いです。日本と他の国の神話やれきしや文化が好きな人達は古事記をよんだほうがいいと思います。

I recommend this book to anyone who likes learning about the mythology, history and culture of Japan or any other countries. It is not very hard to read, even though sometimes the stories can be very strange because they are so old, so that is a little confusing. However, the pictures help a lot and the stories are really interesting. Please read this excerpted version of the Kojiki to learn more about the mythology of Japan!

あくた川りゅうのすけたんべんしゅうくものいとはな

 

二つの話があって、けっこう面白かったです。でも、面白さのためではなく、大事なメッセージを伝える事でいいと思います。両方の話はいいメッセージがあったと思います。読むのはすごくかんたんじゃなかったけれど、えがけっこうあったから、読むのにたすかりました。皆んな読んだ方がいい話だと思います。

There are 2 stories in this book, and each have great messages. It was an interesting read, but the messages conveyed in this book were more important. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading stories with significant messages that apply to life situations, probably not directly as in the situations described in the book, but ones one might come across in various different ways.

あさ／朝

 

皆さんこんにちは。今日は「あさ／朝」と言う詩集です。これは私の初めての日本語の詩を読むことだから、詩の中で文法や字の使うことはよく分かりませんですが、写真を見ると、詩の内容は自然と日と朝を書くことが知っています。詩を読むと、すぐ気持ちがよくなりました！詩の一つ「おはよう」と言う詩は漢字を全然使えません、全部ひらがなで書きました。とても面白いと思います。詩は全部お日様に感謝の気持ちを伝えるし、朝は生命の光を上げるし、美しい夢のことを書きました。自分でチャレンジをしたいなら、この綺麗な詩集を読んでください。

The poems in this collection are all about the beauty of the morning and sunlight, and the photos help you understand the contact of each poem and are gorgeous to look at. I recommend this book to more advanced Japanese readers who want to refresh their mind after a tough day.

絵姿おくさん

 

この話は男の人と、その綺麗な奥さんについてです。毎日、男の人は奥さんの顔を見って、「綺麗だなあ、綺麗だなあ」と言っていました。一日中男の人は顔を見ているので働いませんでした。すぐに、金が足りなくなったので、奥さんは「働いてください」と言っていて、顔の絵を作りました。男は畑に行って、絵を木につけて、働くと、よく絵を見ています。ある日、風はその絵を盗んで、殿様の城に持って切ました。殿様は絵を見った時「綺麗な人だなあ、ここに連れてきなさい」と言っていました。殿様は絵を見った時「綺麗な人だなあ、ここに連れてきなさい」と言っていました。そして、家来は絵の中に女をみつけた時、奥さんを城に連れてきました。出ている前に、奥さんが男の人に桃の種をあげった時、３年後、桃を城に持って着るを約束をさせました。３年後、桃を殿様の城に持ってきました。奥さんと男の人は殿様を騙しました。そして、城に住んでいました。

Basically: Dude has beautiful wife and can’t stop looking at her, even to go to work. She gets tired of being broke and paints a self portrait that he can take with him to the fields where he works and look at it while he works. Everything is Gucci until the wind blows it away and it lands in Tono-sama’s castle. Tono-sama is smitten with one look. He sends out servants to find and bring her to him. As she’s being taken away, she gives a peach seed to her husband and tells him to plant it and in three years bring the peaches to the castle. I won’t spoil any more, but long story short they trick the lord and live happily ever after.

 

I think this was a great story for getting back into the groove of reading Japanese. The kanji aren’t too hard and the story is funny. I highly recommend this book for first years (who are looking for a reach) and second years (who are looking for a breather, or practice).

くまのプーさん

私は最近日本語で「くまのプーさん」を読みました。子供の時私はくまのプーさんが大好きだから、この絵本も大好きでした。「くまのプーさん」を読むと、うれしかった思い出を考えました。「くまのプーさん」の本は全然漢字を作らないから、とてもやさしいです。文法もやさしいと思います。子供の時、くまのプーさんが好きたったら、「くまのプーさん」を読んでください！

Winnie the Pooh is an adorable and beloved children’s book that does not use any kanji.  If you loved Pooh Bear and friends as a child, I would highly recommend this book since you can practice Japanese while reading familiar childhood stories.

小さい白いにわとり

 

この本は話しが三つあって、もっと終わりに来ながら、言葉や文法がもっと難しくなると思います！でも、本当に面白くて、かわいい話しと思います。もう「小さい白いにわとり」の話しを知っていましたが、他のなら（例えば、「きりかぶの赤ちゃん」や「きつねの子のひろったていきけん」というの）知りませんだったから、おもしろいチャレンジになりました。おかしいと思ったから、私の一番好きな話しは「きつねの子」でした。

I would recommend this to other second years if you want a bit of a challenge. I believe it’s a graded reader for children learning Japanese as their first language, so the assumed knowledge of the language is a little different than in our graded readers. It can be very casual and uses a lot of unfamiliar verbs, nouns, and onomatopoeia. That being said, I came away understanding the basic plot of all the stories and even had a few laughs!

ちょうつがいきいきい

 

この本とてもこわい話です。男の子は変な音を聞きます。そして。。。

この本はぜんぜん漢字を使えません。単語や文法は難しないですが知らない言葉と文法がありますからとてもいい本だと思います。絵は面白いです。読んでください。

I recommend this book to anyone who likes scary stories. It isn’t a hard read and only takes a few minutes, but the art and story are very creepy.

ソーピーの冬の家

 

ソーピーと言う男の人はすごくけいむしょに入りたいです。スーピーさんが悪い事をした時、けいかんがつかまえないけれど、夜遅く何もしてない時つかまえました。それはちょっと変だと思いました。けっこう面白かったけれど、すごく何かまなんだ事がありません。

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a simple interesting story. I did not think that this book in particular had one really inspiring message, unlike some of the other graded reader books, however, hence the rating.

となりのトトロ

 

子供の時、「となりのトトロ」という映画が大好きでした。だから、本を読み始まった時、とてもノスタルジックになりました。映画からの絵がとてもきれいで、キャラクターの考え方がもっとわかると思います。

I would recommend this book to people in lower levels of Japanese. It’s a familiar story, so it’s easy to follow, and there are very few kanji. It also provides a good opportunity to practice colloquial Japanese. The main characters are young children, so their dialogue is much less formal than most of what we study in class. And come on, it’s Totoro. We all love Totoro.
