The Smith College Campus School Alumni Journal

Welcome Home.

The Campus School has always been a place where ideas are taken seriously—where inquiry begins early, voices are honored, and learning is understood as a shared endeavor. Long after students leave its classrooms, the habits of mind formed here endure: curiosity, reflection, and a belief in the power of thoughtful education.

As we prepare to celebrate the Campus School’s centennial year, we are proud to relaunch The Lab School: A Journal of Insight and Inquiry from the Campus School at Smith College, the official alumni journal of the Campus School. This relaunch marks both a return and a recommitment—to the school’s history as a laboratory for progressive education, and to its future as a place of rigorous thinking, creativity, and care.

“We are made up of stories,” writes children’s author Jane Yolen (Smith College ’60). This journal gathers those stories: of experimentation and discovery, of moments that challenged convention, and of the enduring relationships that connect generations of Campus School students, educators, and families. Here, reflection and scholarship meet lived experience, offering a space where memory and inquiry inform one another.

As we look ahead to our hundredth year, The Lab School invites alumni back into conversation—with one another, with the school’s past, and with its present. We hope these pages inspire you to return to campus, to share your stories, and to take part in the life of the school as it enters its next century.
