Students send open letter to President McCartney about Lagarde
In response to the President’s announcement and the backlash against students, and open letter to the president was distributed across campus. It had 248 student signatures as of May 26th. The letter, in the wake of Lagarde’s withdrawal, discussed that Lagarde was not entirely the problem, but rather the values of the administration that allowed her to be chosen. It went on to say that the school’s praise of Lagarde’s accomplishments perpetuated a campus climate that rewarded white women’s success at the expense of women of color. Students called on the school to live up to its public promotion of diversity and inclusivity, by more actively supporting lower-income, first generation, and non-white students.
