どうして猿の尾は短い？　どうしてクラゲは骨がない？

 

A monkey and a jellyfish

この本を楽しいでした．でも、”pt.2″は難しいです。たくさん漢字新しいですから。”Pt. 1″ のほうが “Pt. 2” より長いです。だから、猿の物語は早くて読んでください。この図はいつも可笑しいですよ.　のは面白くて、色彩豊くて、よかったです。

This story is a clever one.  True to the folktale genre, there are elements of joy, jealousy, fear, violence, and food that exist to create a literary landscape enjoyed by adults and children alike.  One question that came to mind was if the message is distilled or made less “serious” by the presence of cute animals with emotive facial expressions.  Indeed it seems unjust that the jellyfish should be the victim of any sort of violence, but when colorful fish are wielding the sticks it becomes almost comical.  Maybe that’s where beast fables and folktales draw their strength:  readers don’t expect profound messages to be hidden within these little stories, so our expectations when we approach these (as opposed to a physics textbook) might be more receptive.

桃太郎は私の一番好き本ですね〜桃太郎はとても優しくて、頭がいいですよ。おばあちゃんとおじいちゃんは親切です。犬と猿ときじは可愛です。でも、この本はちょっと長くて、難しかったですよ。

This is an amazing book! It is a Japanese classic folktale about a hero’s journey. I had a lot fun in reading it and I recommend it to everyone who wants to challenge themselves. Because there were a few hard words and I had to check dictionary all the time. But still, I like this story very much.

浦島太郎　

この本は面白くて、簡単です。日本の有名な古い話です。太郎は亀が海に帰るのを助けました。竜宮城に行きました。でも、うちに帰って、箱を開けて、お爺さんになりました。

I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to get a taste of Japanese folktale. The storyline itself is very intriguing, and the manga/pictures in the book features traditional Japanese clothing and palace. We have covered most of the grammar points in the book, but it does have a lot of Kanji, mainly with names of people and places. Overall, I find this book very interesting, educational, and would definitely help me with my Japanese writing. Highly recommend!

笠地蔵

これは短いですが、とても暖かいお話です。お正月のとき、おじいさんはおばあさんは美味しい食べ物を食べたい。そしておじいさんは笠を作って、街に持ってきた。でも、誰も買わなかった。家に帰る途中、雪が大きく降りますから、おじいさんはお地蔵の頭に笠をかぶった。その夜、お地蔵様はたくさん美味しい食べ物をおじいさんとおばあさんの家前に置きました。おじいさんとおばあささんはいい正月を過ごした。

The book features many soft color illustrations and a warm story. The altruistic spirit of the old man is very moving, so I would recommend this book.

かぐや姫

しゅじんこうはかぐや姫なのに、なにもしませんでした。かぐや姫はいいゅじんこうのように人々をたすけるとか最悪なばけものをころすとか、しなかったし、いつもすわって、かなしそうな顔で泣きました。しゅじんこうをすきじゃなかったが、話をおもしろく読みました。

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the behind story of how huji-san got its name. This story does not follow the typical folktale scheme of the main character achieving a happy ending through a journey or a battle. It will refresh any Japanese Graded Readers who are tired of folktales’ predictability with a storyline that keeps readers guessing until the very end.

その本わたのしいとかわいいです。　キャラクターの猿さんはおもしろい、さかなをもらうがへたです。　キャラクターのクラゲさんはしんせつ、はなすがすきです。　本はなにも難しです。　でも、なにもやさしです。

“Why is the Monkey’t Tail Short? Why does the Jellyfish Have No Bones” was a good book to start out with for me, as someone who is not yet complete with the Genki 1 textbook. The story started out pretty simply with the tale of the monkey, but got more advanced with the second story. Lots of new kanji is present, but there is always furigana to help the reader understand. Context from the pictures also can really help when trying to understand new vocab. I would recommend it to others in the same stage of learning as me.

鶴の恩返し

 

私は「鶴の恩返し」と言う本を読みました。読み物シリーズのレベル三な本です。この話は昔話なので、そして私は昔話が大好きだから、この話が好きでした。話の中で、ある町に住んでいる男の人は鶴を助けて、そしてきれいな女の人に会いました。終わりはちょっと悲しくても、好きでした。この本は昔話だけでなく、レッスンもありました。実は、昔話はよく大切なレッスンを教えるから、今も皆さんは昔話を聞きたり、読んだりかもしれません。だから、この話はちょっと変ですが、面白くて、大切な昔話です。

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about Japanese folktales, because this is a very famous one. Sometimes I did not understand some vocabulary or grammar, but it was usually pretty easy to read. I think reading folktales is really important when studying a language because they give cultural and historical background which can help the reader become more familiar with the culture. Please read this book!

走れメロス

「走れメロス」は信頼についての熱い話だ。主人公のメロスは悪魔のような王様に怯えずに立ち向かって、絶対に約束を守ると誓う。王様は人を信じないので、約束通りに戻ってこなかったら、代わりにメロスの大親友のセリヌンティウスを殺すという条件を付ける。メロスはセリヌンティウスだけじゃなく、妹にも信頼されて、重圧を受ける。完璧な人ではないけれど、何回も相手の気持ちを考えて、立ち上がって、走り続ける。人を信じるのはいいことだと教えてくれる。とても感動的な話で、読んでいると自分も何とか頑張れる気がする。

I would definitely recommend this story to my third and fourth year classmates. It’s really a wonderful tale that draws you into this ancient world and makes you care about even secondary characters like Melos’ best friend and sister. Although it includes a clear moral at the end, it avoids being overly moralistic and Melos even exhibits some character flaws instead of being the perfect hero. Overall, it is an interesting and enjoyable read.

七夕ーおりひめとひこぼしの話ー

この本が大好きです。とても古くて、かわいい話です。キャラクターはほしのひとです。おもしろいですね。かみさまがいます。ほしのせかいが好きです。とてもきれいですから。話はたいへんでしたが、おわりが好きです。この本は七夕の話です。七夕はなつのまつりです。とてもおもしろいです。
