桃太郎

桃太郎はいい本ですよ。桃太郎さんは桃の中から出てきました。桃太郎さんと犬とさるときじは鬼と戦いました。面白いですよ。

I would recommend this book to first year Japanese students, although there is a lot of new vocabulary and kanji. It is an interesting story and has repetitive enough grammar and sentence structures to be able to pick up quickly.

タクシー

本のタクシーはかなしいですよ!まえ、ストリはいい。でもきょうに、とてもかなしです。

タクシー is a short story about a taxi driver who helps a young girl. It is more serious of a subject than a lot of the other level 2 books, which makes it interesting. It’s not an incredibly challenging read but it offers some new vocabulary and puts into context kanji we have learned so far.

~スーラ デミア

西町交番の良さん「にわにわに?」

このストーリーはとてもいいです。りょうさんはすごいおまわりさんです。りょうさんはみなさんをてつだうんです。ワニがいました。さいごのパートーはちょとたのしでした。

Yes, I would recommend this book, the kanji is very easy to read. It’s about a policeman named Ryo-san. He is very helpful and in this story he helps out a lady. He helps in dealing with an alligator.

ジョンさん日本へ

ジョンさんは日本に行きました。飛行機の中で、きれいな女の子に合いました。同じい漫画を持ってきました。そして、ラフラフのはなしを始めました。このはなしは簡単で、面白いと思います。読んでくださいね。どころで、辞書を見ないほうがいいですよ。とてもとても簡単ですから。

Unlike the other explanatory books I have read so far, this story has some interesting plot lines. Although the story could easily happened in any other context, I enjoyed this book. I would recommend reading it just for a change, but for those of you who want to target books specifically link to Japanese culture or classic tales, maybe you can skip this.

タクシー

This book was a very sad book towards the end, and it was a surprise a bit. The story line was very good and easy to understand. These three characters are important for the story and its plot. The colors throughout the book were great, and the illustrations made it seem like dream-like story.

I recommend this book to anyone, the kanji are very easy to understand, about two words to look up but if you can continue to read you already understand where the story is going. A lot of the verbs we already know. Overall, just a nice story to read if you want a surprise.

Taxi

笑い話

この本はとても面白いですよ。本の中で、たくさん小説があります。小説はちょっと変ですよ、でもかいがはきれいです。This book is a collection of several very short stories. Some are interesting, and some are a bit strange. But the illustrations are very nice!

I’d recommend this book to any first year student who wants a fairly easy read with not much new grammar. The short stories are fairly easy to understand and the pictures are nice to look at.

笠地蔵

このほんはとてもよかったです。たくさんきれいえがあります。おじいさんは親切な人だと思います。うれしい本です。

I would definitely recommend this book to other Japanese 1 students. It is easy enough to read, with only some minor grammar points I didn’t understand, and I knew much of the vocabulary as well. It is a heartwarming story with some very beautiful and unique illustrations.

わらしべ長者

たくさん漢字ので、難しそうです。でも、難しないんです!左吉さんはお金がほしいですから、観音様に会います。左吉さんは色々人に会います。前の本はもっとおもしろいですから、この本が好きじゃないです。「富士山」が一番好きです。えも、読んでください!

Because there was a lot of kanji, it looked difficult. But it’s actually not! Because Sakichi-san wants money, he visits Kannon-sama. Sakichi-san meets all kinds of people. With the previous books I have read, they were more interesting, so I did not really like this book. Fujisan is my favorite. But I recommend you read it regardless!

ジョンさんの夏休み

この本は良かったです。 それは面白かったです。 日本の夏休みについて話しました。花火を見たり、削り氷を食べたり、本は夏の活動をしています. 文法や単語はとても簡単でした。

I would recommend this book. It is good for beginner-level readers. It has a lot of easy vocabulary and grammar. It was very easy to interpret.

木村家の毎日『お正月』

この本は楽しかったと思います。話しが面白かったと思います。私は早く読んで、わらいました。文はとてもみじかくて、かんたんですが、新しい単語がたくさんあります。

I would recommend this book. The kanji were very simple, and all of them had furigana, so there shouldn’t be any problems on that front. The information itself was easy enough to understand with the help of pictures. Give it a whirl!
