In this book, John does a homestay in Sendai, Japan, during his summer vacation. He becomes closer with his host family, and goes to festivals with new friends. I would recommend this book to anyone in beginner level/first year Japanese, and to anyone looking to study abroad afterwards. There are some unfamiliar words, but it is an easy and light read. It highlights the experiences of a study abroad student while also touching on aspects of Japanese culture.
