Alice Tan ’25 Quigley Fellow

Alice is from Shenzhen, China and Falmouth, MA, and is currently majoring in Classics and English. She “first learned of Meridians by reading Professor Hai’s essay “Departure from Karachi Airport.” Her beautiful piece brought tears to my eyes. I grew passionate over what she describes as the two-front battle a feminist of color often faces: to critique the patriarchal, sexist values within one’s home country yet simultaneously defend it from attacks of racism and Western colonialism. I’m drawn to the diverse, transnational scholarly voices the journal highlights and want to contribute to such important work.”
